Front and Rear Crush Zones The front and rear crush zones help provide driver and passenger protection in moderate-to-severe full-frontal and offset-frontal impacts.
Side Impact Door Beams The side impact door beams help provide protection in a side impact.
Front Side Airbags Standard equipment on the RVSI leather model. In the event of a moderate-to-severe side impact, the side airbag inflates to help protect the driver's or front passenger's upper body. Honda took this safety technology a step further than its competitors with its Occupant Position Detection System (OPDS). The System utilizes sensors in the front passenger's seatback to detect the height and seating position of the occupant. If a child or small-statured adult is leaning into the deployment path of the side airbag, sensors deactivate it.
Other The CR-V even helps protect those outside the vehicle, with front bumper, hood and wiper structures to reduce the risk of pedestrian head injury. Moreover, a low bumper beam and wide frame help lower the chance of "riding up" over a sedan in a collision. |
Honda has always been a leader in the field of safety, and the CR-V follows in this tradition, as it has the first SUV even to receive top crash-test ratings-five stars-in NHTSA frontal and side impact tests.* The CR-V's body is strong and rigidly reinforced, and all five seating positions have 3-point seat belts that help hold occupants securely in place in the event of a collision.
The front airbags have a dual-stage, dual-threshold design, and deploy at one of the two rates and thresholds, based on severity of impact and on seat-belt use. The doors feature side-impact beams for lateral protection. Side airbags are standard on the RVSI leather model, and an anti-lock braking system (ABS) is standard on both the fabric and leather models. *National Highway Traffic Safety Administration frontal and side crash tests, June 2003.
Rigid Steel Body In a frontal crash, the CR-V's front side frame controls impact energy, distributing it to the side sill, floor frame, floor centre frame and a pillars. Side-impact energy is absorbed by the front, middle and rear-floor cross members. In rear impacts, the energy is absorbed and controlled by the rear frame. In addition, the large rear cross member helps protect the fuel tank and passenger compartment.
Dual-Stage Front Airbags (SRS) In the event of a moderate-to-severe frontal impact, the dual stage front airbags inflate and deflate in a fraction of a second, and are designed to help prevent serious head and upper-body injuries.
3 Point Sealbelts Front and rear 3 Point Seatbelts ride across the lap and chest and help restain occupants during sudden stops or impact.
Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) Another CR-V feature is ABS, an anti-lock braking system which helps the driver retain steering control while braking hard. |
